In Praise of Shadows by Pitsou Kedem Architects

The house located in the district of Savyon, 20 kilometers east of central Tel Aviv was designed by Pitsou Kedem Architects. The project titled, In Praise of Shadows, references the importance the designers placed on the relationship between the house and the sun. Weathered steel screens cast chequerboard patterns of sunlight and shadow across the internal surfaces of this house, The main component is a concrete shell that extends around a courtyard, but also frames the large glazed surfaces or openings containing the gridded metal screens.

Jardins House by CR2 Arquitetura

With this project, the architects at CR2 Arquitetura created a stunning residence in São Paulo for a family that was looking for a new place in their Neighborhood. In a small street, they found a site with an old industrial kitchen that occupied 100% of the lot. The idea was to build a mini respite in the urban landscape. The house which seems to be like a large concrete box built on the lot aims to make the most of the sunlight which was already quite limited by the surroundings.

Kusatsu House by ALTS Design Office

This two-storey house which looks beautiful from the inside is build on an unsightly car parking space in Shiga, Japan. While surrounded by neighboring houses and apartment blocks the Japanese ALTS Design Office had to find a solution to secure the privacy for their clients.
